If you have ever used a commercial oven cleaner, you know toxic fumes. Do you fear breathing in the chemicals? Do you get headaches? Irritated eyes or lungs? Your children and pets are the most at risk for these problems. Some of the non toxic oven cleaning tips below will help you get your oven sparkling clean without using harsh, toxic chemicals.
Other reasons to clean your oven with non-toxic oven cleaners include the possibility of food contamination. Then there is the taste. If you have ever used a commercial oven cleaner before, you know what I’m talking about.
It’s difficult to get those toxic chemicals out of your oven. I don’t know if it’s possible to rinse your oven out enough to get all of the chemicals out. Then to have your food tainted…ugh!
It’s no wonder that people are looking for alternatives. Self-cleaning ovens have done a lot to help us with this problem, but not everyone has a self-cleaning oven. So you are left with having a dirty oven or contaminate your family. If you don’t know some of the secrets to cleaning ovens without using commercial cleaners, that is.
As an added bonus, you will find that you are going to save a lot of money as well. And, if that weren’t enough, another bonus is that these ingredients are probably already in your pantry. So you will be saving shelf space. You don’t need to purchase another product to store for when you need it!
Many people use baking soda to clean their ovens. They water down baking soda to make a paste. Then they coat the oven with it. They let the grime and baked on food dry into the baking soda. After a few hours, or overnight, they clean it out with a sponge.
The drawback to this method is that there is a white residue left by the baking soda. Vinegar works great to get the residue off, and it will deodorize your oven.
There are other pastes with baking soda that people like to use. They have the same principle where you coat your oven with them. After its dried, you wipe it down with a wet sponge.
These other baking soda mixtures include mixing baking soda with salt and water to make a paste. Then there is baking soda and vinegar. The baking soda will foam up at first.
Another popular method is to take ammonia and put it in a bowl. Let it stand in the oven overnight. In the morning, wipe down the oven with a wet sponge. If you use a re-sealable container for the ammonia, you can use the same bowl over and over again.
There are many methods you can use to clean your oven. There are enough to find one that will work for you. You don’t have to create a toxic environment for your pets and children.
