Can I give my dog real chicken for every meal?
Hi, I have chihuahua 1 years old.
Since he stop eating normal dog food, I start mixing real chicken and some brown rice.
He looks happy with new meal. I put half of dog food and half of chicken and little bit of brown rice.
I just worry about if the new meal is good for his health or not.

I think your strategy of mixing it up is a good one. You want to be able to feed store bought dog food because if he gets too picky, it will be hard…for example, when you travel and don’t have home cooked chicken and rice. I would take the skin off to reduce fat. You may also want to consider mixing in supplement. I’ve tried Solid Gold seameal and Missing Link canine formula. I wonder if he rejected normal dog food in the first place because it wasn’t the best quality? My parents’ chihuahua is a finicky eater too. She gets hand fed choice morsels of meat but this is really not a good habit to develop. I encourage you to find high quality brand can food so that you have a backup when you don’t feel like homecooking.
