How can one distinguish between dog/cat meat and chicken served in the restuarants?

Most chinese/asian restuarants are known to serve dog/cat but they will tell you that it is chicken. I knew about one restaurant that was warned by health department that not all dogs are allowed for consumption. Is there a way to tell if you were served dog/cat meat instead of chicken ???

You will never be served dog or cat in a Chinese restaurant. It is not cost effective. Beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, etc. are much more plentiful and cheaper to serve.

Some old school Asians do still enjoy consuming those animals that they used to eat in their home country, but it’s difficult to find here in the states. (Hell, it’s rare over there too. Think of it as Asian style soul food. Most Asians think it’s disgusting as well and are highly offended if you insinuate that they eat dog or whatever.)

Even if you can find a restaurant that caters to these tastes on the side, it would be quite expensive. ($50 or more per plate) Some places do still fill that niche. This is why you will sometimes hear of a Chinese restaurant being shut down because they are serving dogs or cats. They’re not serving them to YOU and your friends at the buffet, they’re serving them after hours or for special orders so that they can make a few extra bucks on the side. Of course, if they get caught, they get shut down, so very few Chinese restaurants will risk it anymore.
