Can i keep my Jungle carpet Python in the same cage from hatchling to adult?

can i keep a hatchling jungle carpet python in a 5feet high, 4 feet wide and 2 feet deep cage? and is this big enough for an adult?

The cage sounds ideal for an adult carpet. However, you’ll want to put a hatchling in something much smaller. Young snakes like it cozy. In a too-big enclosure, they will become very nervous, aggressive, and will refuse food.

Depending on how big your JCP is, you’ll want to use a 6-20qt high enclosure. I keep all of my young snakes in plastic tubs with holes drilled in the sides. I find that it is easiest to meet their heat and humidity needs in these tubs.

When your JCP has outgrown sweaterboxes but still isn’t ready for the 2×4x5, AP cages are great.

Frankly if those are all of my choices Id pick the cage with the playstand on top as opposed to the other cages.

Dome cages are a pain in the rear as far as arranging toys, so I wouldnt pick any Dome type cage.

Any cage that opens at the top to form a play stand would also be off my list since birds can be creative. They have all day long (If in the cage) to try and figure out how to open that top area. I have seen birds seriously hurt and even killed by those type cages and I wouldnt own one period.

I’ll see if I can find some more suitable cages and add some links in a moment. I’m guessing your price range is 200 since all of those are in that area. Have you tried looking at a Bird Talk Magazine to see when or if there is going to be a bird show in your area? You could get a decent sized cage with correct bar spacing for 200 or less and the cage would be larger. Try looking in the back of the mag for the bird shows.

Also, be careful right now about ordering cages from just anywhere. Many of these cages are made in China and some bird owners have been finding lead in the paint. Just be careful.

You can go with the top ones above Pili Pad which are a little cheaper, but hold up fairly well. The first two are too small so Id just skip looking at those. Starting at Pili Pad you have a decent made cage. Personally I would choose the Pali Place or the Tiki Treehouse. Those two are the largest cages, offer correct bar spacing and give plenty of room for you to decorate your cage and offer tons of toys and “Play stations”. Neither of them have a seed gaurd, but I’ve personally found that seed gaurds are fairly worthless. I bump into them constantly and the birds just tend to shoot their poop further to piss the guard or throw farther….haha. Again I wouldnt even look at any of those that have Dome tops.

Edit 2: It took me a bit to find this link. http://www.kingscages.com/ You might want to look here. You might have to spend about 50 more on a cage from Kings, but they are considered to be THE best cages in the bird world. If you can afford it at all, try and get a stainless steel cage over a powder coated cage. You’ll find that in the end the stainless cage is well worth the money and you’ll have less issues with rust and no powder coat chipping.

I’ve also heard some great things about the vision cages. They just brought out some newer sized ones that would be good for a conure. I tried looking for them, but I couldnt find any, so you’ll just have to look around to find one. They now come with stands and such and they are easy easy clean up.

Edit 3: Bah…I thought it said Sun Conure, try and make sure your bar spacing is small enough for the green cheek. Bar spacing should be 1/2 inch or less.
