My dog is a cross of a lot of dogs, and her neck is bigger than her head so collars slide off her easily. She recently had an operation and has to wear and Elizabethan collar. But because of her small head she keeps pulling it off. A martingale collar wouldn’t work on her because the only get tighter when a lead is pulling on them. So if anyone has any suggestions on how to keep the collar on ot would be really appreciated
In reply to the answers, yeah i have a harness for her, and that’s what im doing right now to keep the collar on her, it just doesn’t look very comfortable. But thank you anyway, i think that’s the only thing i can do for her!
Two weeks ago my b*tch has surgery to close a golf ball size wound after a run in with a tree which removed the flesh down to the muscle.
I was given an elizabethan dog collar to protect the wound, but it was heavy & cumbersome for her to wear so discarded it. Instead I cut down a clean t shirt which was a slightly loose fit, but did not trip her up or hinder limb function, & she did not attempt to pull at the stitches or lick it.

I am concerned about my neighbor’s dog. The individual had her dog tied up on a leash no longer than two feet, and, because the leash kept getting tangled up on the pole it was tied to, the dog only had inches to move, if even that. I’ve already written a letter to the individual and notified the local animal shelter but was wondering if there were any leash laws in Pennsylvania that set the minimum length for leashes.
The individual had left her dog unattended while he/she went off to do whatever, and the poor thing didn’t even have any shelter at all. I know the dog isn’t left outside 24/7, but I don’t know how often the dog is left out there.
Leash laws are typically set by the city or county, rather than the state. So check with your nearest animal control office.
It’s a tough situation you’re in. You might try calling the shelter the next time it happens instead of writing a letter. They might be more likely to respond to a situation while it is happening than after the fact, especially if it involves food, water, or shelter. Most humane laws I’ve seen were based on those three things rather than leash length, though in some areas there are requirements about things like how long a dog can be tied out and how they can be tied (how long and what kind of line).
One other thought. You might consider giving her a longer tie out yourself and see if she’ll use it. They’re available for under $10 usually.
