What is better, dog litter or dog pads? or even newspaper?

We live in an apartment and have decided to train our boston terrier pup to use the Purina litter tray. My question is if the dog litter is better than the pads. The litter is more expensive but I like that I can just scoop out the mess opposed to take out the entire pad. Anyone ever use paper towels in the tray so they can flush the mess? THANKS!

I have a Maltese puppy. He is trained to go on the piddle pads.
There is a scent on the pads that makes them go on them. So, newspaper wouldn’t work as well. He still has accidents, but when he poops you can hardly see it because he is so small.

I was going to try the litter, but I thought the pads would be easier. There is no odor from them either. You will want to try a couple different brands. He likes some better than others. People look at me a bit strange when they see me smelling the piddle pads before I buy them.

My other thought was this, small dogs don’t like the cold or heat. There is no way he would go outside if it was raining or snowing. We were at a picnic last week end and the temperature was about 65 degrees. He was shaking, that’s how cold he was. I had to wrap him in sweatshirt until we left.

If I lived in an apartment there is no way I would crate train a dog. My little one has never been in a crate. When I leave him he has the run of the house. He has never chewed anything or gone to the bathroom when he’s alone.
