Bird Rabbit
Is it illegal to go in your backyard, kill a rabbit or bird, and open it up?
I have never done this, but I have always wondered if it was legal or not.
Is it illegal to go out into your backyard, kill any kind of animal (such as a rabbit, bird, or frog) and dissect it on the spot? It kind of sounds like it would be, but I wouldn’t know…

I don’t want to do this, I just want to know if is illegal. And yes, I mean intentionaly. I would never do that, because of all the diseases those animals get! Oh, if it helps, I live in Arizona, because I guess each state has it’s own laws. X3

If it’s a random bird like say a sparrow then no it’s not illegal. The only time it becomes illegal is when you kill a game animal (one that has a hunting season) either outside the season or without a license. Rabbits to tend to have seasons, although states vary on their rules. In some states there is what is called an open season where you can shoot it without a permit any time of the year (ie coyotes in Minneaota). The act of opening up a dead animal isn’t illegal, but if you don’t dispose of it properly such as not putting entrails in the garbage, leaving in the street, leaving it out to rot so that neighbors smell it, you can be in trouble with local town laws. In the case of hunting you cannot kill an animal and leave it without taking the meat as that is what is called wanton waste and is illegal. If you’re going to get into firearms, most cities don’t allow them to be discharged within city limits if you live in a town.
