Bully Sticks

Please HELP: BULLY STICKS?

My 58 pound pittie likes bully sticks (Steer pizzle), and I usually watch him close while he chews them. This time he got a piece that was about 1 1/2 inches long and about 1/2 inch wide. He was gnawing on it, and it was getting soft and gooey (gross) but I got distracted and he ended up eating the piece. I don’t give him raw hide because the vet has said these get stuck in the intestines… Has anyone ever had their dog eat these? I am just hoping it will go through and or digest ok…? PLEASE write if your dog eats these? AND how long before I know until he has digested it??

Your dog will be fine. Bully Sticks are basically just dried meat, and they are fully digestible. Don’t worry, really!

Rawhide Dog

What is the most healthly chew stick for a dog? I know rawhide is not good.?

My puppies have sensitive tummies and they got a bacteria from the beef tendon chews (we think). Are the nyla bones any good? They have one now but they chewed a piece off and it feels like plastic. That can’t be good for them. My vet doesn’t like any of the chew sticks, but I think they need something to chew on besides my furniture.

Nyla bones are plastic and generally don’t make for a healthy chew. Rawhide can be dangerous also, as it can cut your dogs gums, can splinter and cut their insides, and is difficult for a lot of dogs to digest. My dog Nella actually had the same problem as yours. Ever since, I buy her only the soft n chewy rawhide from hvPet.com. She loves them, they are easily digested, and I’ve saved a ton of money on teeth cleanings since she started chewing them. I’d take a look there and they’ll surely have something for your dog. I’ve seen puppy chews and also rawhide “crunchies” which are like rawhide biscuits but they actually break apart into small pieces while the dog chews on them.
